Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort’s top pennant team continued its successful run with an emphatic 4/1 victory in the final over Shepparton Golf Club to clinch the YSM Division 1 Flag.
Playing on the Murray Course last Sunday, number one pair Frazer Droop and Mitch Davis won 7/6, No. 2’s Dale Crothers and Ben Casley won 3/2, No. 3’s Jay-Ar Martin and Lewis Scerri also won 3/2 and the Number 4’s Troy Robertson and Darren Edwards won 2/1.
The number five combination of Todd Le-Grand and Steve Campion went down 3/2 but there was plenty of excellent golf by both teams.
Eight teams competed in the YSM Division 1. The name YSM dates back to the 1970s when just three teams – Yarrawonga, Shepparton and Mansfield – took to the pennant-competition fairways.
“It’s a competition pros (professional golfers) can play,” head professional at YMGCR Evan Droop told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“For a club like ours, it’s a good opportunity to introduce up and coming juniors. Ben Casley played last Sunday. And Baxter Droop would have played too if he was available.
“Special thanks to Dale Crothers who captained the team this year.” Dale, of course, was top state trainee professional for 2019.
YMGCR has enjoyed a lot of Pennant success over the years, with very strong teams. Last Sunday’s team was no exception, headed by first year professional Frazer Droop.
That strength proved itself last Sunday after recently playing Shepparton at Mansfield for an agreed 2 and a half all match outcome.
