From arranging raffles and Christmas in July celebrations, to manning the market stall on a cold Saturday morning, the Auxiliary members have been busy.
President Barbara Jennings took on the task of organising the Christmas in July lunch at the North Eastern Hotel on July 23.
There were some surprises in store for attendees, including poetry readings by Stewart Coutts and Margaret Boyle.
An Auxiliary spokesperson asked to thank staff and management at “The Northo” for contributing to the success of the Lunch.
“(We held a raffle at the lunch) and the main prize, a quilted rug, was won by Barbara Jennings,” The spokesperson said.
“Several other attendees won plants and other goodies. Thank you to Michelle Aitken for the donating of the rug.”
The group also arranges their annual mid-year raffle, with the draw taking place on Saturday 27th July at the Lakeside Market.
“The Auxiliary members are most grateful to the community for the support given and also to the Manager and Staff at Liquorland for making space available for ticket sales,” the Spokesperson said.
“We again had some great prizes, donated by local folk and members of the Auxiliary.”
First prize - A hand-made quilt by Heather Sloan – won by Margaret Polkinghorn
Second prize - A shopping trolley and a food hamper - won by Gwen Vinecombe
The trolley was donated by Barbara Pryde and the hamper contents by Auxiliary members.
Third Prize - A kitchen hamper donated by Auxiliary members – won by Judy Guy.
Included an autographed Jamie Oliver cookbook donated by Jodie Beaton.
Fourth Prize - A dressed doll donated by Kathy Welsh - won by June Wastell
A hand crocheted rug, donated by the Auxiliary members was won by Ian Appleton
Even though market day on Saturday was a tad cold and damp, both of the Auxiliary’s stalls had good trading.
“We (were selling) several combinations of marmalades thanks to donations of large quantities of citrus fruits,” the Auxiliary spokesperson said.
“Our members and friends (had also) been busy knitting and sewing many lovely items for sale.
“The plant stall was popular again, with only a small amount unsold. We will have to be busy growing more for the future markets.”
