The innovative event aims to explore this unique part of the world and connect people with fantastic opportunities available right here in their own backyard.
Set in the Benalla Botanical Gardens, The Source will host a makers market, workshops and demonstrations, set to the backdrop of live music — with the world-renowned Geoff Achison headlining the stage.
Organiser Darrel De Fazio said there would be amazing food available with catering by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.
‘‘There will be a variety of food trucks and of course, the fantastic King Valley Barbecue will be there, too,’’ Mr De Fazio said.
‘‘Zac Slater, who last year raced to number one on JJJ’s unearthed hip-hop charts, will be warming up the stage, preceded by young local musicians from the north east and Goulburn Valley regions in support.
‘‘Plus we have the Hurdle Creek Still, which is unique to this event, serving their famous gin cocktails and showcasing the great products available from their distillery.’’
The makers market will hold 60 diverse stalls with a range of regional craft and produce.
The Source will be the largest makers market in Benalla to date all set under the shade at the Botanical Gardens.
It will have a variety of interactive workshops, demos, and activities.
‘‘As a part of the entertainment the Benalla Scout Group are building a large ninja warrior course for kids to test their skills on,’’ Mr De Fazio said.
‘‘In conjunction with The Benalla Art Gallery we will be conducting two kids’ art workshops.
‘‘Plus Edspace will be facilitating a bike course, with bikes supplied, a fun photo booth, and a quiet space with Caspa the dog.’’
Workshops will be held all day covering a wide range of things, such as woodwork for kids and adults, fermenting, smoking and curing meats, and how to make ice-cream.
‘‘The incredible Amelia Yang is bringing her guzyeng, an ancient Chinese musical instrument, for an intimate set,’’ Mr De Fazio said.
‘‘This is separate from the live music on stage and will be something not to miss.
‘‘There will also be a fairy trail to lead kids, and the believers, around the Botanical Gardens.’’
The Source is organised in partnership with EdSpace, and begins on March 23, with gates opening at 10am and closing by 8pm.
Tickets are inclusive of all activities, demonstrations, and workshops. Kids under 12 are free, 13 to 17 years $5, and adult tickets are $25.
