The Benalla Saints’ thirds recorded their first win of the season in spectacular fashion, turning around a 59-point half-time deficit to defeat Shepparton Swans by 10 points on Saturday.

And it was a stern talking to at the half-time break that brought the young side to life in the second half.

Staring down the barrel of a big loss, the Saints responded with an increase of pressure and outside run to work themselves back into the match.

But it was their eight final-quarter goals, including a Bailey Davis major to put the side in front with two minutes to go, that sealed the deal for the Saints in the 13.6.84 to 11.8.74 victory.

After a tight first quarter, the Swans went to work on the Saints, kicking six unanswered goals in the second term.

The margin could have been worse if not for Jesse Walker’s desperate work in defence for Benalla.

Luke Dunne was dominant in the ruck across the four quarters, while Chelton Orchard made the most of his time up forward with three goals.

Matt Gillespie gave the Saints grunt around the stoppages, while strong marking from James Davies and Adam Walsh when it counted had them among Benalla’s best.
