Schutt was expected to return to Australia's team against England after missing the India series for the birth of her child.
But the decision was made to sit out the team's best quick from the match, with concerns over her conditioning after battling COVID-19 over the summer.
Australia's officials were also keen to take a cautious approach, with a one-day World Cup in March and Schutt the No.3 ranked bowler in the format.
Schutt on Thursday said she was fit to play in Canberra, but understood the decision.
"I always feel fit to play," Schutt told Seven.
"I was pushing my hand up there, but at the end of the day we have a World Cup after this and you have to think of the long game sometimes.
"I wasn't even sure if I would be picked in the XI anyway. If the ball is not swinging I am kind of useless.
"We had some conversations pre-tour and catching COVID didn't really help my position.
"I didn't argue with it. I am one to state my opinion if required, and I didn't argue with that one. I was agreeing with it."
It means Schutt will go the summer without playing a Test, with only four to her name despite nine years of international cricket.
The call to leave Schutt out of Australia's team was arguably a bigger shock than the decision to drop Perry for the T20 component of the series.
The decision will also put more pressure on Darcie Brown and Annabel Sutherland with the ball, with the pair chosen ahead of the South Australian.
Perry and fellow allrounder Tahlia McGrath would also be expected to get through a large chunk of work, while debutante Alana King and Jess Jonassen are the frontline spinners.
