Which meant there was no-one Melbourne Victory coach Jeff Hopkins felt was more suited to get his players out of a goalscoring slump and reignite their A-League Women championship hopes.
Hopkins called upon academy boss Berisha, who he has known since their respective days at Ange Postecoglou's Brisbane Roar in 2011, for a finishing session last month.
"That was awesome. He's a character," striker Holly Furphy told AAP.
"Every time we would take a shot, he would always tell us to believe. If we would miss a shot, he would go 'you did not believe'.
"I always think about that now - every time I take a shot and I miss, I'm like, 'was I really locked in to take that shot? And was I taking it like it was the last shot that I'll ever have?'
"You can see our energy's carried on since he came in."
Berisha's message was simple - the players needed to master their mindset and believe when they got their chances, the net would ripple.
"If you miss a chance, never let it all fall apart - just go again, because one more chance is coming and you have to be ready," Berisha told AAP.
"Holly stood out to me. She's a really, really explosive and very strong player. I had a clear idea that she has everything a football player can have.
"But at times, I felt like her approach into a finish was with less belief than I thought personally you have to have.
"What I told her is: 'you're not going into the finish because it's your job. You're going into a finish because you believe you're gonna make it.'"
In-form Furphy believes sixth-placed Victory can wipe two previous 3-1 losses to Canberra United and turn the tables in Saturday's elimination final at McKellar Park.
"That's literally what (Berisha) was trying to instil in us - is just having that hunger in front of goals," Furphy said.
"That's what we lacked in the last few Canberra games, is we might've had chances, but we didn't have that strong belief that we were going to make it count - and he really helped us hone that in.
"That's why I feel so confident going into this game - you can just see in everyone's eyes that we want this so badly."
Berisha believes this team has what it takes to go all the way.
"They are a team to win it," he said.
"And they can really pull it off - if they believe it and go for it."
