It's a decision that has paid dividends, with the 22-year-old entrenched in a Dockers side closing in on a historic maiden premiership.
After being selected as the No.10 pick in a loaded 2021 draft, Erasmus struggled for consistency and only played 23 games across his first three seasons.
With his career at a crossroads, he had a solid finish to the 2025 season, leading to strong interest from cross-town rivals West Coast and the Western Bulldogs, who dangled the carrot of more opportunities.
But Erasmus was not swayed and re-signed with the Dockers on a three-year deal.
"I thought at the time that it would be a hard place to leave and it's turned out that way for sure," Erasmus told AAP.
"I'm really close with the group. We're mostly pretty similar in age and it couldn't be a better work environment.
"I knew that going into the decision making. I just backed myself in to be able to grow enough to get consistent games and I feel like it's worked out."
Erasmus has been an important cog in the Dockers' midfield machine, with his endurance and physical approach complementing some of his more freewheeling teammates.
He has averaged a career high 17.6 disposals to go with eight goals after playing all 26 games this season.
"There's no perfect midfield mix, but I do think we balance each other really well," Erasmus said.
"That's a credit to the coaching staff too as they've worked pretty hard this year to get the rotations right."
Erasmus will have his hands full against Brisbane's hardened midfield, where he is likely to battle the likes of Jarrod Berry, Levi Ashcroft and Hugh McCluggage on the wing.
"We bat pretty deep but we have to be accountable and keep the pressure up because their midfielders can be extremely damaging," he said.
"We've seen the Lions play really attacking footy, so a disciplined approach will be required."
Growing up an Eagles fan - Dom Sheed's match-winning goal in 2018 is his favourite grand final memory - Erasmus is one win away from being part of an immortal Fremantle side.
"I know we'll definitely feel the amazing support that we'll get from home and everyone who travels to Melbourne," he said.
"It's an incredible feeling knowing how much support we have. It's all pretty special, but we have a job to finish."
