Football Australia Faces Integrity Review After Repeat Match-Fixing Scandals

Football Australia faces scrutiny as a new match-fixing scandal prompts a major integrity review of betting safeguards in the A-League.

Football Australia is under renewed pressure as fresh match-fixing allegations hit the A-League, the second case in a year. The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has launched a review of the league’s integrity systems to assess whether current safeguards can effectively detect and prevent manipulation. The latest investigation involves Western United’s key midfielder Danzaki, who is facing ten charges related to suspicious yellow card incidents in matches played earlier this year. Two other men, aged 24 and 27, have also been charged. All three are due to appear in court on 31 July.
