St Jospeh’s Primary School officially opened its new Foundation Learning Centre in a blessing ceremony last week, with students, staff, parents and special guests on hand to celebrate.
Kicking off proceeding was Uncle Lance James and Troy Firebrace, both Yorta Yorta people, who opened the ceremony with a welcome to country and smoking ceremony respectively.
What followed was an official blessing from Bishop Leslie Tomlinson and parish priest Fr Vijay Bandanadam, with several other ceremonial proceedings taking place throughout the morning.
St Joseph’s Primary School principal Trish Merlo said the new centre would enable the students and staff of the primary school to work towards positive student learning outcomes.
“It has so many different facilities ... it will be used for large classrooms, smaller group settings, one-on-one teaching, as an art space, theatre room and a meeting room,” Ms Merlo said.
The building has been four years in the making, after the land was purchased in 2015.
Following the drawing of the plans, demolition and construction which began in August 2017, students were able to first step into the brand-new building at the end of last term.
