Benalla’s Ginnivan Family reunited at a special family get together last weekend.

Benalla was barely a township when, many years ago, the Ginnivan Brothers rode into town.

William, John, James, Daniel and Patrick would all settle in the area to raise their respective families.

In the ensuing decades the families have grown, and moved around the country.

Now Leo Ginnivan and his family are some of the few left in the area -so when the opportunity for a reunion came up he jumped at the chance of being involved.

“I actually grew up out in Samaria, and have lived here my whole life,” Leo said.

“We had a big family reunion on Saturday out at Tatong then we came back into Benalla on Sunday to see the Weary Dunlop Statue and cemetery.

“There's 14 property across the area where family used to live so (we all went to see) the properties their relatives grew up.”

More than 60 family members from across the country attended the event - including 4 generations.

“One of my nephews and his wife had done a lot of research on the family, so we learnt a lot about them from the work she has done,” Leo said.
