Benalla Racing Club is using its annual Comfort Inn Benalla Kids Day Out on Sunday as a focus for the town and region to raise as much money as possible for the Victorian bushfire appeal.
Club manager Cameron Symes said Benalla Racing Club would be donating 100 per cent of admission takings for the day to the appeal.
Even better, he said Benalla Racing Club had guaranteed to match those payments dollar for dollar.
‘‘The arithmetic is as simple as it gets — the more people who come through the gate the more money we will be sending the victims of these tragic fires, which are disasters still unfolding across Gippsland as well as in other states,’’ Mr Symes said.
‘‘Because it coincides with our Kids Day Out we chose this day as an obvious vehicle to get the biggest bang for everyone’s bucks as it is a big hit with the local families and people in the region on holidays.
No last-race Russ at Benalla races, but still a winner
‘‘So we are encouraging as many people as possible to get out here for a pleasant Sunday afternoon and support all those people who have lost so much — too many of them having nothing left but memories and broken hearts, so the more we can do to help them the better.’’
Mr Symes said there would also be collection tins available on course to allow everyone there on the day to donate their loose change to the people who need it the most.
There will be a seven-race card with the first starting at 1.15pm.
