“This came to council a month ago, and we’ve had three or four meeting with the residents who want the tree to stay,” Cr Claridge said.

“I’ve inspected it and Dean Steegstra, our arborist, felt that it was not an appropriate tree, and that it is causing infrastructure damage to the footpath.

“Lots of these trees were planted in good faith and at the time they thought they would be appropriate.

“We have agreed to plant a substantial tree in its place, and the community can have some input as to what type of tree it is.”
