Benalla Rural City Council will distribute $335,000 across 24 community projects as part of the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.

Council received $1million in funding from the program with Benalla being recognised as experiencing hardship because of the drought.
The funding is to complete local infrastructure and other drought-relief projects.
Applications from a high number of community groups were received and assessed against criteria set by the Australian Government.

Benalla Rural City Council chief executive officer Dom Testoni said getting this funding out into the community would have multiple benefits.
“All the applicant groups, and the individuals within those groups, do a mountain of work within our community and we thank them for the time and effort they put into that important contribution,” Mr Testoni said.
“We are pleased to be able to fund these 24 projects, which represent a broad geographic spread across the municipality, different age brackets and project types.

“Having this funding with these community groups, which will largely be spent locally, will also play a role in helping the Benalla Rural City economy through these very tough and ongoing COVID-19 times.”
Community groups and projects to receive funding are:
● Albert Heaney Oval Committee - Upgrade of facilities at the Albert Heaney Oval, Swanpool $17,000;
● All Blacks Football and Netball Club - Clubroom rejuvenation $7000;
● Benalla Agricultural and Pastoral Society - Multipurpose shelter upgrade $20,000;
● Benalla and District Preschool Partnership - Installation of a rainwater tank $3638;
● Benalla Aviation Museum and Men's Shed - Securing the Men's Shed complex $13,600;
● Benalla Netball Association - Upgrades to clubrooms and court sun shelters $13,605;
● Benalla Scout Group Being Our Best- All access bathroom facility $20,000;
● Benalla Sports Entertainment Centre - Sewer pump well upgrade $4500;

● Devenish public hall - Kitchen and plumbing infrastructure upgrade $15,000;
● Goorambat Public Hall Reserve - Goorambat hall public toilet facilities and surrounds improvements $20,000;
● Goorambat Football Netball Club - Netball court resurfacing and umpire rooms $18,500;
● Lima School Community Centre - Facelift $10,850;
● Lurg Hall and Reserves Committee of Management - Lurg hall and school reserve upgrade $11,782;
● Molyullah recreation and public hall reserve - Upgrade to public toilets at Molyullah hall $20,000;
● Molyullah recreation and public hall reserve - Upgrade to fish and chip cooking area $4500;
● Moorngag hall and recreation reserve - Multi-purpose storage shed $18,850;
