With Benalla's position on the Hume Fwy electric charging stations are likely to draw electric vehicle owners, and their spending power, to the Rose City.
The Victorian Government is calling for businesses, councils and community organisations to apply for some of the $5 million in funding available.
The idea being to expand Victoria’s network of fast-chargers – including chargers that give electric vehicles enough power to drive 100 km after only 10 minutes on charge.

Energy, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio announced the grants, 80 per cent of which are earmarked for regional Victoria.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the $5 million in funding would deliver about 100 charging stations across Victoria, so this was a great opportunity for communities to attract Zero Emissions Vehicle drivers to the area.
“This will make it easier for electric vehicle drivers to make the trips across the north east knowing that there will be a charging station here when they need one,” Ms Symes said.
“I encourage businesses and tourist destinations in Northern Victoria to take advantage of this great opportunity and apply for funding.”

The government will work with successful applicants to maximise the number of chargers that can be delivered.
The grants program will also support jobs across supply chains and services – including technicians, mechanics, and electricians – which brings broader economic benefits across the state.
Applications are open until 5 pm on Friday, July 23.
