Benalla's Live4Life, Rotary and RSL to receive BRCC community grants

Three local groups will receive $500 grants from Benalla Rural City Council's Community Sponsorship Program.

Benalla RSL, The Rotary Club of Benalla and the Live4Life Benalla crew were successful in grant applications.

The grants were passed unanimously by the council at its meeting on Wednesday.

Benalla RSL will use the funding to hire a venue to host a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the RAFF in October.

The Rotary Club of Benalla will use the funding to assist local children to attend the Portsea Camp in January 2022.

The Live4Life Benalla crew will use the funding to purchase jumpers for its 22 members to be able to keep warm while promoting the program during the winter months.

Cr Gail O'Brien told the council meeting she was pleased to see the variety of groups in Benalla applying for these grants.

“It means that the message (that they are available) is getting out to the community . . . which is great,” Cr O'Brien said.

The Community Sponsorship Program is designed to enable local community groups, clubs and organisations to seek funding to increase their capacity to work in partnership with the council, and others, to address local needs and enhance the local community.

The Community Sponsorship Program distributes grants up to $500 on a monthly basis, allowing local clubs, groups and organisations the opportunity to seek funds when the need arises.

The 2021-22 council budget allocates $15,000 to the Community Sponsorship Program.

These grants represent the first applications for community sponsorship in the 2021-22 financial year.
