His family, still hopeful he is alive, have again issued an appeal for information that may lead to him being found.
Ian Gray, then aged 66, was last seen leaving his home on Bunnaloo Road, Mathoura, on Friday, September 11, 2015.
He was driving a white Holden Rodeo 4WD with a cage on the back and registration AG4 6AJ.
Ian hasn’t been heard from or seen since, and his bank accounts haven’t been accessed.
He is not known to have been carrying cash or identification documents.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District have reopened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ian’s disappearance in 2021 under Strike Force Kirkne.
Since Ian disappeared, there have been several alleged sightings, including as far away as Castlemaine, Wangaratta and north of Swan HIll.
However, none of these could be confirmed.
His ute has also never been found.
Leave A Light On - a community organisation established to “be a voice and raise awareness of all long term missing persons in Australia” - said Ian’s family are still hopeful he is alive and working on a farm somewhere.
“Ian's family, with whom he had a close relationship, remain hopeful he is still out there somewhere and want to know he is safe,” Leave A Light On said.
“There are serious concerns for his welfare, as in the weeks leading up to his disappearance, Ian had been feeling depressed.
“A passionate poll dorset breeder, Ian's disappearance is completely out of character for him.
“At the time of his disappearance, Ian was described as tall, with a thin build, fair complexion and grey hair.
“He was last seen wearing a blue jumper and jeans. Ian would now be aged 76 years old.”
