Recently two local businesses, Florence Court and Fruits N Fare, teamed up to offer locally produced olive oil.
Florence Court Extra Virgin Olive Oil is now available at Fruits N Fare, 164 Bridge St East, Benalla.
“We’re really excited to be selling another wonderful local product,” Fruits N Fare’s Meg Morrison said.
“This extra virgin olive oil is absolutely outstanding, the robust flavour includes an intense peppery taste laced with fruits and an amazing earthy scent.”
Florence Court Extra Virgin Olive Oil comes from Sarah and Richard de Crespigny’s grove on their farm along the Broken River, 7km from Benalla.
Their grove is 25 years old and is made up of Corregiola and Frantoio olive trees.
The sandy river loam soil and the Benalla climate are perfect for the production of high-quality olives.
They harvest in June and the olives are cold pressed within hours of being picked — producing an exceptionally flavoursome olive oil with an intense scent.
The oil is then stored on the farm in lined and sealed wooden vats.
Sarah said this prevented air and light from entering, keeping it as fresh as possible. The oil is then bottled on the farm as needed.
“In the past we’ve sold our oil in bulk but with so much enthusiastic feedback about the quality of the oil, we wanted to make it available in smaller amounts,” she said.
“We are really happy that we can now offer Florence Court Extra Virgin Olive Oil to Fruit N Fare customers.
“(It’s a) local product sold locally to locals.”
