That number 7 getting around in a Kyabram jumper looked very familiar.
And he was.
It was Kayne Pettifer, who last played with Kyabram two years ago and with Nathalia last season.
The former Richmond and Kyabram star gave no hint that his 43-year-old legs were on the blink a bit with a match winning five-goal haul.
And will he be back?
“A couple of friends asked if I would play and if the club wants to me to and there is a position I woudn’t rule it out,’’ Pettifer said.

Yes, it’s been a bit chilly of late in the district with minimum temperatures dropping below zero.
But nothing as quite as nippy as Saturday, June 21, when the mercury plunged to -10℃ at Goulburn at 7.22am.
That’s even colder than Kyabram’s coldest temperature ever recorded during the drought year of 1982 when the temperature dipped to a teeth chattering -7℃.
In that year, over 100 frosts were recorded.
Kyabram’s lowest temperature for 2025 was recorded on Thursday, June 5 when it bottomed out at -2.8℃.
But despite the cold weather, the big plus has been the badly needed rain that has been recorded recently.
Last Wednesday and Thursday, Kyabram Weather Station recorded 13.8mm and 11.8mm to take the June total to 57mm.
One district cropper described the latest rain as a perfect follow-up rain to earlier falls in June which allowed planting of crops to proceed.
‘‘But of course we need more follow up rains to keep the growth going, but it’s a lot more positive than it was a month or six weeks ago,’’ he said.

The Deni Ute Muster organisers are roping in some big names for its iconic event which is looming fast.
Max Jackson is the latest Aussie singing sensation and will make her debut at the muster to be held on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4.
Max has been taking the Australian country music scene by storm in recent years and among her achievements was winning the Toyota Star Maker award in 2022.
New waste contract
FOOTT Waste Collections has been appointed the new waste collector partner for the Strathbogie Shire Council.
The Shepparton-based business will manage the collection of all household waste, recycling, organics and the newly introduced purple lidded glass-only bin.
The partnership started this month.
Another 7-Eleven
Shepparton is to get a third 7-Eleven store.
Construction is set to begin at the 608-616 Wyndham St on land which has been vacant for several years between Mustafa’s Kebabs Drive Thru and the Shepparton Baptist Church.
This land was sold in 2022.
The new development is expected to open in early 2026.
Road toll too high
Not the news you want to be reading, but brings a strong message.
Australia’s road toll is the highest since 2010 with 1337 people killed in the 12 months period to the end of May this year.
The increased toll was been driven by a rise in cyclists and pedestrian deaths.
Pedestrian deaths rose from 166 to 192, while cyclist deaths increased from 30 to 41.
