Aunty Iris calls mobs to action

Many Mobs Indigenous Corporation founder Iris Troutman has called the Mobs of Australia to action against Federation Council’s proposal to remove the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags from Chambers.

The decision by Council has angered many in the community, and ‘Aunty’ Iris said this was an opportunity for Mobs to turn up and say, “This is not good enough”.

“I’ve asked people who live close by to come to the meeting and let them know you’re watching,” Iris said.

“Bring placards, bring signs.

“We’ll be meeting at the Urana Council office from 9am.”

Federation Council plans to vote on the fate of the flags at their next meeting on Tuesday, March 17.

The contentious decision, first flagged in November, proposes to amend Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols.

If adopted, the indigenous flags will come down to exclusively fly the Australian flag at its Corowa and Urana chambers.

Aunty Iris has started a petition against the decision, which has more than 600 signatures and is looking for more support.
