Designed for participants of all skill levels, the workshops explore a range of mediums — from drawing and painting to festive wreath making — offering opportunities to learn new techniques and connect with leading local and regional artists.
While the gallery is temporarily closed for its major redevelopment, workshops will take place across a range of Benalla venues.
Stippling with Karen Brown
Emu by Karen Brown.
On Saturday, October 25, join Wodonga-based artist Karen Brown at the Benalla Visitor Information Centre to learn the mesmerising art of stippling — a drawing technique that creates light, shadow, and texture entirely from dots.
Participants will learn step-by-step how to develop tone and form to produce intricate, expressive drawings.
All materials will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. Cost: $70 members / $80 non-members.
Watercolours with Jana Brook
Coastal Stroll by Jana Brook.
On Saturday, November 22, local artist Jana Brook will guide participants through the fundamentals of watercolour painting at the gallery’s pop-up space, 75 Bridge St East.
The workshop will introduce layering, blending and lifting techniques, helping beginners gain confidence with this fluid and expressive medium.
All materials will be provided. Cost: $50 members / $60 non-members.
Wreath making with native flowers
A wreath made by Felicity Pasztaleniec.
Celebrate the festive season on Saturday, December 6 with a dried native wreath-making workshop led by Felicity Pasztaleniec of Everlasting Floral Studio.
Using sustainably sourced Australian flora, participants will design and create their own unique wreaths in a relaxed, supportive environment.
All materials and equipment will be provided. Cost: $100 members / $110 non-members.
Benalla Art Gallery director Eric Nash said the workshops offered an opportunity for participants to experiment creatively while learning directly from professional artists.
“We have an incredible community of artists here in the north-east who are continually making and sharing their work,” Mr Nash said.
“Our workshop program supports hands-on creative experiences and helps participants gain a deeper understanding of art making — whether they’re pursuing a new hobby or refining existing skills.”
