The annual fundraiser had the club packed to capacity with supporters decked out in their brightest pink outfits ― a symbolic colour representing the fight against breast cancer.
The goal was to raise funds for the McGrath Breast Care Nurses, whose invaluable support and care help individuals and their families navigate their breast cancer diagnosis right through to their treatment.
At the heart of this foundation is their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by breast cancer and this fundraising event was the perfect way for the Benalla community to show its support.
Benalla Bowls Club put together an incredible night of entertainment and prizes, with raffles and auctions for donated items, as well as merchandise in the form of pink sashes and wristbands.
Club employee Jordan Smith played a pivotal role in orchestrating the event, having been closely impacted by his family’s experience with breast cancer.
“Six months ago, I knew nothing about breast cancer,” Mr Smith said.
“My partner has unfortunately been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.
“So I’ve learnt a lot in the last six months, especially the foundations that help behind the scenes.
“The McGrath Foundation has provided us a breast care nurse who helps us with appointments.
“She brings us coffee. She rings us up to see how we’re going. If we need anything, she’s there.”
Mr Smith actively approached local businesses for assistance to make this fundraiser successful, with the local community showing its unwavering support.
The night featured pink bubbles donated by Brown Brothers Milawa and a live performance from the local duo Mel and Geoff.
Operations manager Daniel Wells said Benalla Bowls Club would continue to raise funds for this worthy cause.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the community for their generosity and support,” Mr Wells said.
“Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.”
