Club member Bev Thornell said that after a two-hour drive, the group parked at Cresta Valley, to begin the pretty 4km Dickson’s Falls Nature Walk.
“It’s a gentle valley track across Alpine grassland, dotted with wildflowers, up to the falls,” she said.
“We enjoyed superb panoramic views from the lookout.
“Sadly, there was only a tiny trickle of water, thanks to the dry summer.”
After lunch at The Hump picnic area, the group tackled the steep 2km Hump Track, a series of rock steps leading upwards to the magnificent rock formation known as the Cathedral.
“Three of us opted to remain there, leaving the fittest walkers to soldier onwards to The Hump,” Ms Thornell said.
Walk number three was the 1km Old Galleries circuit, a short drive away.
Ms Thornell said the walkers who hadn't been there before were amazed at the spectacular high, narrow galleries of granite stone.
“Wendy chose Grossman's Mill picnic area, overlooking Lake Catani, for our afternoon tea break,” she said.
“The long two-hour return drive was broken by a brief stop at Pepo Farms in Ovens, where our group bought pumpkin seed products to take home.
“Thanks to our capable walk leader and driver, Wendy Baker, for a wonderful day exploring Mt Buffalo.”
