Benalla Bushwalking Club’s latest expedition saw the group swap hiking boots for a much different type of footwear.

Winter snowshoeing is always a popular alternative for a club that concentrates on bushwalking, evidenced by the turnout for the trip up Mt Stirling on Saturday, July 27.

The leader for the excursion, Gill Sydes, said the outing was a fantastic substitute for the regular trails.

“An easy little 6km snowshoe, with a great group, on Mt Stirling,” she said.

“Weather was fine with patches of sunshine, and we had the lower slopes to ourselves.

“We walked the Hut Trail and visited Razorback Hut and then ate lunch by the fire at King Saddle.

“The hot chocolate in the café is always welcome. If there are more snowfalls, perhaps we could do another snowshoe trip?”
