Now in its third consecutive year, this much-loved community event is once again being brought to life by the dedicated volunteers of the Benalla Migrants Association, whose efforts continue to grow alongside the community’s enthusiasm and support.
This year's celebration promises to be the biggest yet.
Attendees can look forward to a spectacular performance by the Bendigo Chinese Association Lion Dancers, whose vibrant display is always a crowd favourite.
The BMA kids’ dancing group has been working on a traditional folk dance and will perform it for attendees.
Rounding out the festivities will be a locally catered Chinese lunch, cultural trivia and hands-on crafting activities for all ages to enjoy together.
BMA president Puna Gunaratne said the Year of the Horse carried a powerful message that resonated deeply with the Benalla community.
“The horse symbolises forward movement, independence and endurance,” he said.
“We received tremendous community support last year, and we are thrilled to have received even more this year.
“We are very excited to present something even better than before.”
The event is open to everyone — whether you're a long-time local or new to the region.
This is a wonderful opportunity to come together, share in Benalla’s rich cultural traditions, and celebrate its warm and welcoming community.
The Luna New Year celebrations take place at Benalla Town Hall, Nunn St from 11am to 1.30pm on Saturday, February 28.
Tickets cost $10 for ages 12 and over. Children under 12 are free, but still require a ticket.
