Also known as the Sir Edward Weary Dunlop Learning Centre, it promotes lifelong learning and literacy, through the delivery of a range of programs for adults and children in Benalla Rural City.
The library is a modern and welcoming community resource.
On the foreshore of Lake Benalla, it provides access to everything from books and magazines to movies, children’s storytime sessions, wi-fi, computers, photocopying and printing.
And best of all membership is free for Benalla Rural City residents.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and changing opening hours, library staff have taken the opportunity to give the space a “refresh” with an improved layout, furnishings and the creation of a special interactive children’s corner.
The Friends of the Benalla Library president Geraldine McCorkell said the enthusiastic group of volunteers had been operating since 2013.
“(The) profits we raise through the Redb4 Bookshop (is) dedicated to enhancing community spaces like the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Centre,” Ms McCorkell said.
“We are passionate about creating a love of reading and learning for all in our community and assisting the library staff to acquire new books and materials.
“As a group, we are genuinely thrilled to see how our efforts have helped create improved reading and learning spaces for all library users.”
Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Danny Claridge had a look at the makeover on Monday, September 4.
“The new spaces in the Benalla Library are a credit to our dedicated library staff and the tireless efforts of The Friends of Benalla Library volunteers,” Cr Claridge said.
“Our community is lucky to have such a visionary and committed group, working collaboratively with us to create an asset for all in our community.”
