The event, which sees a new president and board elected, is also an opportunity for funds to be distributed to local not-for-profit groups.
Benalla Lions Secretary Denise Brown said Lions gave out “lots of money.”
“We had disbursements given to the Goorambat Veterans Retreat,” she said.
“As well as the Benalla Scouts, Benalla Theatre Company, the Rose City Band, the Sister Edna Burns Trust, the Benalla Trust, Benalla L2P, Benalla Violet Town Legacy, Benalla and Odyssey House.”
Funds were also distributed to charities associated with the Lions Club, including:
- Lions house.
- The Lions Club International Foundation.
- Lions District V6 Foundation.
- Lions Children’s Cancer Research.
- Royal Flying Doctors.
- Lions Prostate Cancer Research and Treatment Project.
- Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
When it came to the job of electing a new president, it was a past president who took the reins.
“Our outgoing President is Chris Vaughn and our new president is Peter Brown,” Ms Brown said.
“We had five past district presidents at the changeover, and three OAM recipients.
“And we elected a new board.”
They are:
- Peter Brown - President
- Loch Lidgerwood - Vice President
- Margaret Poels - Vice President
- Gary Clunes - Vice President
- Peter Poels - Membership Chairman
- Denise Brown - Secretary
- Lester Watt - Treasurer
- Steve Kelly - Director
- Brice Walker - Director
“We also elected a new member, Corey Van Beek,” Ms Brown said.
Ms Brown said the club was always on the lookout for new members. If you’d like to find out more, contact Peter Poels on 0448 399 227.
