“I was driving home from the shops when, as I was approaching my house, there was a group of three youths, two males and one female, walking on the road,” he said.
“As I approached, they knew I was there, and they actually moved further out on to the road.
“I asked them to get off the road, and was verbally attacked, I then motioned to them to just keep moving, so I could turn into my driveway, and a verbal argument took place.”
Mr Shedden said, as he got out of his car, all three assaulted him.
He said after the assault, the female in the group took rocks from a neighbouring garden and used them to attack his car.
“There was nothing I could do, as if I had intervened in her unhinged attack on my car, I have no doubt the two males would have recommenced their assault on me,” he said.
“I called 000 and police attended. The two males remained at the scene, the female decamped before police attendance.”
After giving the police his victim statement, and a neighbour doing the same, Mr Shedden took himself to Benalla Hospital for treatment.
“Other than some bruising, soreness and suffering a bit of shock, I am okay,” he said.
“The police were really good, very professional. So too were the staff at the hospital.
“You might expect this on a Saturday night, but this was a Monday afternoon.”
Benalla police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
A police spokesperson said it was believed the altercation occurred on Barkly St about 5.15pm.
“Investigators have been told the man and one of the youths were involved in a physical altercation and a vehicle was damaged during the incident,” the spokesperson said.
“It is believed both parties sustained minor injuries.
“The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.”
