The college, formed from the amalgamation of several local schools, has provided a seamless educational journey for its students, ensuring continuity in their academic and personal development.
A school spokesperson said since its inception, Benalla P-12 College has offered students a cohesive educational experience from prep through to Year 12.
“This structure has allowed for continuous monitoring of students’ skills, talents and needs, ensuring no loss of information as they progress through the year levels,” the spokesperson said.
“The consolidation of staff and leadership has created a supportive environment with consistent oversight of each student’s entire educational journey.
“The formation of a single School Council has been instrumental in broadening the college's remit, allowing for strategic allocation of resources where they are most needed.
“This has led to significant facility upgrades, providing state-of-the-art learning environments for students.”
Despite these successes, the college has faced some challenges with its current structure.
Extensive discussions and consultations have taken place over the past few years to determine the best path forward.
The goal was to identify a structure that would best serve the students, staff and local community.
The outcome of these consultations is a new, streamlined structure that will see the Clarke St campus, formerly Benalla West Primary School, close.
The restructure will see the college consisting of two Prep-Year 6 campuses (Avon and Waller Sts) and one Year 7-12 campus (Faithfull St).
“There are early discussion with the department on the future of this facility,” the spokesperson said.
“This new structure aims to reduce the number of transition points for students, making their educational journey smoother and less disruptive.
“The consolidation into fewer campuses will also allow for an expansion of student leadership opportunities and is expected to lead to improved student outcomes.”
A transition year is planned for current Year 5 students to ease the shift to the new structure.
This transition period will help students and staff adjust smoothly, setting the stage for the successful implementation of the new campus organisation.
“The college community is excited about these changes, which promise to enhance the educational experience for all students,” the spokesperson said.
“The new structure is poised to provide a more supportive and enriched learning environment, ensuring Benalla P-12 College continues to grow and thrive in the coming decade.”
