Council has already sent out renewal notices and is encouraging all dog and cat owners to ensure their pets are registered and details are up-to-date, helping keep pets safe and supporting important animal management services across the community.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said registering pets is a simple but important step for all pet owners.
“Registering your pet is a simple way to help them get home safely if they ever get lost,” Cr Hearn said.
“It also helps Council look after our community by supporting animal services and keeping people and pets safe.”
Pet registrations are required under Victorian law for all dogs and cats over three months of age, and must be microchipped before they can be registered, while farm working dogs incur reduced registration fees.
Reduced fees are also available if your animal is desexed.
Cr Hearn encouraged residents to check their pet’s registration details ahead of the due date.
“If you already have a registered pet, take a moment to check your details are up-to-date,” she said.
“If you’ve just got a new pet, and it is over three months of age, make sure you register them, so they’re protected from the start.”
