Benalla Rotarian Wayne Lewis wins Shine On Award

Benalla Rotarian Wayne Lewis has been awarded a prestigious Shine On Award.

The award recognises outstanding service by a person living with disability who serves as a shining example to their local community.

Benalla Rotarian Bruce Walker said award recognised what Rotary described as "Service above self".

“Wayne was a fit young man working on his father’s beef and sheep farm when he suffered catastrophic injuries from a slasher falling on him,” Mr Walker said.

“As a paraplegic and after hospitalisation and rehabilitation Wayne determinedly went back to the farm where he and his father modified tractors and other machinery to assist him to work.

“Wayne eventually inherited the farm and continued to work it for another 30 years.

“Wayne was always a keen community volunteer for the Tatong School, Tatong Football Club and the Tatong CFA

“Since retiring, Wayne continues his community involvement as a member of the Rotary Club of Benalla.

“Wayne is highly regarded in the community as an inspirational and committed person and volunteer.”
