Benalla Social Knitters hosts World Wide Knit In Public Day on Saturday, June 10

World Wide Knit In Public Day is an international event that brings knitters and yarn lovers together to create in public.

It has been a major event on the international crafting calendar since 2005, however as with most public events has been disrupted by COVID.

The last World Wide Knit in Public Day was celebrated in Benalla in 2019, and this year Benalla Social Knitters were pleased to be able to get the event going again.

A club spokesperson said there was a great turnout for the knit in public, with 15 knitters meeting for the event at The Hub café at Winton Wetlands.

“Highlights of the day included some new knitters joining in, some beautiful and colourful projects, and lovely company that was enjoyed over delicious snacks and warm drinks,” the spokesperson said.

Benalla Social Knitters hosts a sit and knit every second Sunday from 2pm to 4pm at Munro and Sargeant Café at the Benalla Art Gallery.

It also meets for dinners and other events throughout the year.

Its next sit and knit (or craft or draw) will be on Sunday, June 25.

All crafters and creative people are welcome to come along and bring their project.
