The semi-finals were played last week, deciding which team goes straight through in to the grand final, which team gets a second chance and which team is eliminated from the finals series.
It has been a season of squash like no other.
A start postponed by a week, then a lockdown interruption mid season, playing during school holidays to make up time and then a shortened competition season due to vaccination requirements where a program of social, timed squash was played for four weeks, so members could still get their squash fix.
All in all only two weeks of the squash season was missed.
The club thanks all its members for their understanding and persisting through all the changes and the altered squash season.
Looking forward to more settled squash seasons next year.
Here are the results of last week’s semi-finals of the spring season competition:
Section 1:
In the first semi-final, Benalla Bobcat Team defeated Barkly Street Vets Team 3 rubbers to 1: Wally Pastuszka lost to Greg Murphy 0/3, Rod Firmer defeated Adam Saddler 3/0, Dave Campbell defeated Treena McNair 3/2 and Gary Manning defeated Gerry Margat 3/0.
In the second semi-final, Caslek Computing and Cabling Team defeated Custom Squash Team 2 rubbers each, 7 games to 6: Sandy Patterson lost to Dylan Pastuszka 0/3, Gerard Vitti defeated Paul O’Brien 3/0, Andrew Ham lost to Robbie Elliott 1/3 and Bechy Pastuszka defeated Sharon Watkins (fill-in) 3/0.
Section 2:
In the first semi-final, Stuart Green Plumbing Team defeated Hollywoods Pizza Team 3 rubbers to 1: Daniel Scott defeated Alex Scherini 3/0, Greg Cornell defeated Sharon Gysberts 3/0, Damien Gilbert defeated Kyle Margat 3/0 and Alex Briggs lost to Lucas Ham 0/3.
In the second semi-final, Steph Ryan MP Team defeated HP Excavations 2 rubbers each, 9 games to 8: Liam Thivillier-Lefebvre defeated Liam Margat 3/2, Ray Moulday lost to Toby Currie 1/3, Anakin Pastuszka (fill-in) lost to Jye Pastuszka 2/3 and Andrew Costello defeated Dawn Shaw 3/0.
In Section 1, Benalla Bobcat Team go straight through in to the grand final on this Friday night, while Monday past, Barkly Street Vets Team and Caslek Computing and Cabling Team battled it out to see who plays them.
In Section 2, Stuart Green Plumbing Team go straight through in to the grand final while Hollywoods Pizza Team and Steph Ryam MP Team battled it out for a grand final spot.
