Inside its rehearsal space, laughter, singing, dancing and the occasional clang of prop swords echo, signalling a show that promises both fun and spectacle.
Directed by long-time company members Molly Craig and Jamie Boatwood, the production blends comedy, adventure and misguided romance.
“It’s a playful take on the classic King Arthur story,” Molly said.
“We wanted something that is fun and accessible, but still gives our cast plenty to dig into.”
The cast, a mix of seasoned performers and newcomers, are working hard to bring the story to life.
The show has lots of great music, including Walking on Sunshine, Don’t Stop Me Now, and I’m a Believer, which audiences will love.
Off-stage, volunteers are busy assembling costumes, painting sets and managing the countless details that go into a community theatre production.
For many involved, the show represents more than just entertainment.
Community theatre in Benalla has long been a hub for creativity and connection, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds.
“It’s about storytelling, but it’s also about community,” Jamie said.
“Seeing everyone come together like this is what makes it worthwhile.”
A Knight to Remember is shaping up to be just that — a memorable experience for both those on stage and those in the audience.
The show will be on stage at the Benalla Town Hall over two weekends from June 19 to 27.
For six of the seven performances, audiences will sit cabaret style at tables, with one performance of theatre-style seating.
“So, start getting your friends and family organised for a fun time with the Benalla Theatre Company,” Molly said.
