Benalla Theatre Company's musical delights with empowerment and fun

Monique Hillenaar, Jacqui Creamer and Wendy McLay star in 9-5: The Musical.

On a weekend full of laughter and fun, Benalla Theatre Company’s 9 to 5: The Musical kicked off its run at the Benalla Town Hall.

With terrific performances, witty dialogue, and a toe-tapping score by Dolly Parton, the production is being loved by audiences.

Based on the hit 1980 film of the same name, 9 to 5 follows the story of three working women who take control of their office — and their lives — after enduring a toxic, sexist boss.

The musical's themes of female empowerment, workplace equality, and friendship resonated with the crowd.

The cast is delivering great performances.

Monique Hillenaar brings warmth and a quiet strength to the role of Judy Bernly, while Jacqui Creamer has the audience in stitches as the sassy and street-smart Doralee Rhodes.

Wendy McLay, as the sharp-witted Violet Newstead, brings charm and confidence to the stage. Together, their chemistry is electric.

Musical highlights include “Shine Like the Sun,” “Change It”, the comic “heart to Hart” and the title number “9 to 5,” which had the audience clapping along.

The production has three final performances this coming weekend and tickets are selling fast.

Tickets are available via Sticky Tickets or in front of Benalla’s Bendigo Bank.

Whether you’re a fan of the original film or discovering the story for the first time, 9 to 5: The Musical promises an unforgettable time at the theatre.
