On Saturday, May 17 from 9.30am to 4pm, GV Rail Club will be ‘popping up’ at Benalla’s CWA Hall to present one of its infamous model train exhibitions.
Established over 30 years ago, the club has flourished, transitioning from meticulously hand-crafted models to exhibitions that blend modern technology with classic craftsmanship.
Having exhibited at major events like the Shepparton Show, as well as community activities at libraries or school fairs, the GV Rail Club is excited to come to Benalla.
Visitors can expect the CWA Hall to be decked out with model trains of all sizes and members eager to share their knowledge and expertise.
A Thomas the Tank Engine layout will be on display, featuring interactive models that come to life with a simple press of a button for the kids to enjoy.
President of the GV Rail Club, Rod Farmer is eager to get the ball rolling for Saturday.
“We’ll have a variety of scale size trains... the weekend is to show people that there’s a whole multitude of sizes that you can see,” he said.
“All the exhibitors are all very easy to talk to, and we do find that we have a lot of questions asked.
“People are very curious as to how we do things and how it happens, and all the guys and girls are all very well to talk to people if they have any questions, and that sort of thing.
“We also have people who, quite often, have problems with their trains.
“Most of the time we can solve them.”
Vice-president of the CWA and a member of the GV Rail Club Heather Hartland said there’s no model train clubs at all in Wangaratta or Benalla, but there are a lot of people here who are interested in them.
“So when the GV Rail Club who meet at Shepparton Railway Station... were talking about pop-up shows, I made the suggestion they might want to do one in Benalla because Benalla people can join Shepparton,” she said.
“This is basically an introduction to trains as a hobby for anyone that’s interested.”
