This special occasion will be marked by a flag-raising ceremony at the new Benalla Police Station at 10am.
IDAHOBIT is a global day of significance that shines a spotlight on the fight against discrimination towards LGBTQIA+ individuals while promoting acceptance, inclusion, and equality.
A council spokesperson said that by coming together as a community, we have the opportunity to show our support for diversity and inclusion, creating a stronger, more united Benalla Rural City.
“A small ceremony will accompany the flag raising, offering a chance to engage, connect, and stand together in support of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“This gathering is more than just a celebration. It is a powerful reminder of the role we all play in fostering safety, understanding, and belonging.
“Council proudly acknowledges the support and partnership of Victoria Police in ensuring this event is possible.
“Their commitment to inclusion and respect reinforces the importance of working collectively to make our community a welcoming space for everyone.
“We encourage all residents of Benalla Rural City to attend the IDAHOBIT 2025 Flag Raising Ceremony.
“Join us on Friday, May 16, at 10am at the new Benalla Police Station to celebrate diversity, raise awareness, and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Together, we can continue to build a community where every individual is valued and supported.”
