The Australia Day Awards recognise and celebrate the contributions of those who make a positive difference across our municipality.
Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Community Event or Project of the Year.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said the awards recognised the dedication of individuals and groups to our community.
“These awards are a wonderful way to acknowledge the dedication, passion and generosity of our local heroes,” Cr Hearn said.
“Every nomination tells a story of people who go above and beyond to make Benalla Rural City a stronger and more connected community.”
Eligible nominees must live, or volunteer, most of their time within the municipality.
Nominations should clearly demonstrate the nominee’s contribution and impact on the community.
“Whether it’s through volunteering, leading initiatives, or inspiring others, we want to hear about the individuals and groups who make a real difference,” Cr Hearn said.
Nominations for the 2026 Australia Day Awards open at 9am on Wednesday, October 1, and close at 5pm on Wednesday, November 26.
Forms can be completed online via council’s website or collected from its Customer Service Centre.
