Nominations are now open for the 2022 Australia Day Awards, with categories being Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, District Achiever of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Community Event or Project of the Year.
The awards celebrate achievements and contributions individuals and community groups have made to the community.
Australia Day Advisory Committee chair Bernie Hearn said we all knew someone who had made life in Benalla Rural City better in some way, especially during these current times.
“I encourage you, to give some thought to the people around you,” Cr Hearn said.
“Friends, workmates, students, someone at your sports club or the club itself, community events or projects and consider nominating them, and acknowledging the great work they do helping the community.
“This is a way of saying ‘thank you’ to those who give their time and effort to making Benalla Rural City a great place to live.
“The awards are something positive to look forward to after what’s been a challenging year.
“We will celebrate all nominees and announce the winners on Australia Day.”
Nominations close on Wednesday, December 1.
