Waminda Community House hosts a community lunch each school term, and decided to do one with a fun and exciting theme.
Programs, marketing and administration officer Eleanor Currie said attendees were asked to dress up in footy colours or floral dresses.
“And along with that, we served food with a footy theme,” she said.
“We had hot dogs and homemade sausage rolls, soup and some yummy dessert.”
Due to having a footy theme, Waminda reached out to the Benalla Saints to see if they could donate any raffle prizes.
“They were great,” Ms Currie said.
“They gave us a Benalla Saints hoodie and beanie, which were our first and second prizes for the raffle.

“We also had some handmade artwork, created by the art group that we run, to give away.”
The event even had some help from local students.
“We had two students from the Flexible Learning Centre, and their teacher Lynne (Sidhu) come along to help,” Ms Currie said.
“They helped with some of the food preparation, food serving, and were essentially waitressing.
“They help us every week, but they came especially for the lunch yesterday and stayed for a few hours.”

Ms Currie said all who attended had a great time.
“They loved it,” she said.
“At the community lunch, people always have a great time, but the vibe yesterday was great.
“Everyone was in high spirits. And despite the cold weather outside, everyone enjoyed it.
“And it’s nice because some people are able to sit with friends, but a lot of the time people sit with people they don’t know, and they meet others and always have a good talk.
“So it was really nice.“

Ms Currie said this type of event would not be possible without the help of volunteers.
“Thank you to all our volunteers,” she said.
“We have an amazing volunteer cook, who did a lot of the cooking with (Waminda House manager) Leanne Bullard.
“So, a big thanks to all our volunteers that make events like that happen and the set-up and the clean-up as well.
