Graduating from a one-day event to two, to mark the 25-year milestone, organisers are expecting to trump last year’s 10,000-plus attendance with well over 1000 cars on display.
Among them will be four custom builds by Rod Hadfield of Castlemaine Rod Shop fame, which have not yet made it out of his Goldfields region museum.
Local custom car builders Shane Rowe and Greg Maskell of Southern Rod and Custom and Maskell’s Customs and Classics will also feature.
Show Us Ya Wheels committee member Trevor Kennedy said display cars would come from as far away as Alice Springs.
“One of the mechanics in Numurkah clears out his shed at the top of the street and we’ll put Rod’s cars in there,” Mr Kennedy said.
There will be hot rods worth upwards of $500,000 and a Lamborghini with a $1.2 million price tag on show to please luxury car enthusiasts.
The action starts on Saturday with the unveiling of Hadfield’s Garage in the morning before a ‘roll the dice’ cruise taking in hotels at Numurkah, Katunga, Picola and Waaia, including prizes and a sausage sizzle.
Back in Numurkah’s main street that afternoon will be trade and food stalls, kids’ entertainment and remote-controlled boats on the creek.
Live music starts at 2pm and three freestyle motocross displays start at 3pm.
Sunday is show day, with 40-plus trophies to be awarded early in the afternoon.
But before that, there will be more remote control boats, freestyle motocross and live music, as well as Careful Cobbers, an aerobatic display, ‘Show Us Ya Style’ fashion event, large engine start-ups and an auction.
A vintage tractor pull, a Powercor display and a Tenex excavator display, where a crane performs intricate movements, such as picking up a drink bottle and handing it to someone in the crowd, will also feature in the program, with car-loving model and presenter Sandra Horne set to MC Sunday’s proceedings.
“This show is the best and biggest around now,” Mr Kennedy said.
“It takes up the whole main street and back streets.”
Show Us Ya Wheels is on this weekend, Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, in Numurkah.
Entry is via gold coin donation, which will be passed on to different clubs in the Numurkah area.
