More than 30 Auskick kids ventured to Memorial Park for a bonus Auskick round at Roverland last weekend.

“Our youngest Auskickers participated in activities and a game, following the same format as a regular Auskick session but offering them the experience in new surroundings to show off their skills to onlookers,” committee member Emma Arthur said.

The older Auskick participants played a game.

“The Rovers fifths divided up their regular playing group and we shared our Auskick children across the two teams. This ensured a more even match up of skills and experience.

“Nearly 50 children participated in the match and, for many of our Auskick kids, this was their first game against a team that wasn’t their own.

“A big thanks goes to everyone involved and in particular Shane Knuckey and Davey Leetham from Rovers, and Scott Howard and Boddie Arthur from the Auskick group.

“We also couldn’t have done it without all of the parent helpers and Rover’s thirds who gave us a hand on the day to keep the kids going.

“It’s partnerships like this that secure the future of young footballers in our communities, and we welcome all opportunities like this into the future.”
