Agriculture Victoria is investigating a complaint about animal welfare in the Congupna area.

Country News understands several landholders have lodged complaints with the agency, which sent two officers to investigate at the end of January.

Country News has been shown photographs of cattle in poor condition on Raak Rd and Jenkins Rd.

Agriculture Victoria said it was aware of the situation at Congupna and the matter was currently under investigation.

“We take animal welfare seriously and respond to all allegations received in accordance with the legislation and departmental procedures,” a spokesman told Country News.

Agriculture Victoria assesses each animal cruelty investigation for the most appropriate regulatory outcome, ranging from voluntary compliance and education, to warning and infringement notices, and finally, prosecutions for serious matters.
