The National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week is usually held in the first full week of July, which coincided with the school holidays.
The school committed to celebrating once the school term resumed, and children were settled back into the classroom.
Principal Darren White said it was an exciting day for all.
“The day consisted of five rotations of art, stories, food, music and traditional Indigenous games,” he said.
“They were organised and run by teacher Jacinta Lewis with assistance from local First Nations people Tyrelle Taylor, Trae Crowe, Norma Gowans and Year 12 Finley High School student Lenny Dattoli.
“There was much laughter and many smiles as the children threw themselves enthusiastically into all the activities.
“The day was a wonderful opportunity for cross-cultural exploration and the bringing together of the students, teachers and members of our Indigenous community.
“Students painted rocks and boomerangs, listened to stories, learnt about the didgeridoo, danced, played indigenous games and cooked delicious Johnny cakes/damper enjoying them with lashings of syrup.”
