Strathbogie CFA volunteer Tanya Lumley is preparing to tackle a challenging 28-floor climb at Melbourne's Crown Metropol in September.
Joining firefighters and emergency services personnel from Australia and overseas in full firefighting gear, Ms Lumley is taking on the challenge for a cause close to her heart.
The event requires participants to climb wearing 25kg of equipment, including breathing apparatuses, to raise funds for cancer research and mental health support services.
“It's Strathbogie's first time being represented in the event, so I need to do this community proud,” Ms Lumley said.
To support the Stair Climb's $1 million fundraising goal, Ms Lumley is organising a Trivia and Silent Auction Night in the Strathbogie Ranges Tableland area.
“I watched a friend battle cancer over the last few years and had the privilege of being by his side when he passed,” Ms Lumley said.
“Now, I'm watching a close friend's two-year-old go through chemotherapy. It doesn't discriminate.”
All proceeds from the event will go to the 000 Foundation, Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, and Lifeline, with 100 per cent of funds supporting cancer research and crisis support services.
