Facilitated by experienced midwives, the antenatal and childbirth classes are targeted at soon-to-be-parents in their later stages of pregnancy.
Each information session offers a safe environment to educate, support and prepare families for pregnancy, labour and the birth of their baby, including what to expect when they go home.
The final class offers expert advice from a dietitian, physiotherapist and maternal child health nurse to provide information on the importance of nutrition, exercise and pelvic floor and how to access and utilise the maternal child health services after the birth.
These classes run for three weeks from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesdays every second month. The next program will run in October.
Parents who have participated in the past 12 months have spoken highly of the classes, saying, “great program, very beneficial”, and that the information provided “was brilliant — hands-on movement, lots of info without it overloading within two hours”.
Additionally, early pregnancy classes are targeted at parents in their early stages (first trimester) of pregnancy or those that are planning their pregnancy and are interested in staying fit, healthy and learning about the changes that occur during pregnancy.
These classes run from 7pm to 9pm on the fourth Tuesday of every second month, the next class being on October 22.
Classes are open to anyone in the Benalla region and can be booked through the Benalla Health website.
