Australia’s biggest fun run and walk for breast cancer research was held at 75 locations in major cities, metro areas and regional towns across the nation.
People also took part in the annual fundraiser by choosing a day, a time and a location that suited them in their own local area.
More than 1.5 million people have participated in the Mother’s Day Classic for breast cancer research in the past 26 years, donating $41.5 million to fund game-changing research.
“The success of this year’s event is truly inspiring and demonstrates the incredible impact that can be achieved when a community comes together to celebrate, honour, and support those affected by breast cancer,” Mother’s Day Classic Foundation chief executive officer Zara Lawless said.
“We are thrilled to see such a strong turnout of over 60,000 Australians for the 2023 Mother’s Day Classic. The outpouring of support and generosity from participants and donors alike is incredible.
“We are proud to be well on our way to achieving our 2023 donation target of $2 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Thanks to the generosity of our participants, donors, volunteers and sponsors, we have raised a significant amount of money that will support game-changing research to improve outcomes for those impacted by breast cancer.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has played a role in making this year’s Mother’s Day Classic such a resounding success.”
While the event has concluded, fundraising remains open until June 30 and organisers look forward to announcing the final donation tally to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in October, adding to the figure of more than $41.5 million that has been donated since the Mother’s Day Classic began in 1998.
