The much-anticipated roundtable discussion between Benalla’s community groups, not-for-profit organisations and community leaders has been held to discuss the future of the town’s crucial support services.
Organised by State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland, the roundtable discussion was scheduled following the closure of the Benalla Community Services Hub, which had served as a vital central location for 12 health and community agencies across north-east Victoria.
Ms Cleeland was thankful to all those who participated and said there was reason to feel optimistic about the future.
“The closure of the Community Services Hub left a devastating gap in our town, cutting off access to the vital health, housing and family violence support services that so many rely on,” Ms Cleeland said.
“I look forward to continuing to meet with representatives from these services and community groups as we work together to resolve the issue for the sake of Benalla’s most vulnerable residents.”
Ms Cleeland said finding a new home for these support services was the number one priority.
“This is not just about a building,” Ms Cleeland said.
“It’s about ensuring that victims of family violence have somewhere to turn, that those in crisis have someone to support them, and that our community remains strong, united and cared for.”
There were 25 representatives from community groups across Benalla who participated in the meeting, which was held on Monday, February 24, at the CWA Hall.
