While only reaching moderate levels, flood water rose quickly as Benalla Rural City Council moved to close community assets, such as the library and prepare for the clean-up.
Benalla Rural City Council has thanked the community for its patience and understanding during the recent flooding and for the measures local people took to keep themselves, their families and crews working on flood mitigation and clean up safe.

The Broken River peaked at the Moderate Flood Level of 3.71 metre, though there were still significant impacts on the community including road, infrastructure and recreation area closures.
The library was also closed on Monday, August 10 as a precautionary measure while the floodwaters were still rising, though it reopened the following day.
While the clean-up is ongoing, we’d like to remind everyone not to drive through floodwater, obey all road closure signs and barriers, slow down near emergency services and road crews and always follow the directions of Victoria Police, Benalla SES and council crews.
Benalla Mayor, Bernie Hearn, thanked the local community and Benalla Rural City Council staff for their support and understanding following the flooding.
