Mr Daw took up the reins in the new role just a week ago and is already making headway towards recruiting more volunteers.
A long-term volunteer himself with the CFA, and with a background in the education sector that includes Occupation Health and Safety, Mr Daw is well placed to support Cooinda’s current and future volunteers.
“Cooinda has a wide variety of volunteering opportunities, there is sure to be an area of interest to suit just about anyone,” Mr Daw said.
“We have a team of up to 30 regular volunteers, some of whom have been volunteering at Cooinda for more than 20 years.”
Cooinda chief executive officer Alex McKenna said its volunteers undertook important and diverse roles at the facility.
“Their valuable contributions are well appreciated and acknowledged by staff, residents and families alike,” Mr McKenna said.
“The roles they undertake, such as greeting visitors at our screening station, resident companionship, assisting residents at meal times and fun activities such as coordinating a painting group and footy tipping, all focus on the care and quality of life of everyone at Cooinda.”
New volunteers to Cooinda will undertake a full orientation process, which includes familiarisation of policies and procedures, Aged-Care Standards and training across several areas including infection control and Occupational Health and Safety.
