At a special meeting of the Brigade last week, long-standing volunteer firefighter and octogenarian Daryl Horsburgh was presented with a tribute to his service to the brigade.
Daryl only recently stepped down from firefighting duties, but remains an active brigade member.
Daryl’s 52 years of service to the CFA included 18 years as brigade captain.
At the presentation Daryl recalled the volunteers having to build the Samaria CFA shed themselves.
He also recalled the day in 1992 when a new fire tanker was presented to the brigade. This same tanker remains in service.
Daryl’s memento consisted of his old captain’s helmet, mounted on a beautiful red-gum base with a plaque.
That plaque reads "Presented to Daryl Horsburgh in appreciation of his many years of dedicated service to the Samaria Fire Brigade".
With Daryl’s departure from the firefighting ranks, Samaria Fire Brigade is keen to recruit replacements, and say they will need at least three to replace Daryl.
